GreenBottle: Plastic into Purpose
A smart Reverse Vending Machine that transforms empty water bottles and plastic cups into real-world sustenance. By merging AI with a mission of social justice, we empower communities to protect the environment while fighting food insecurity.

Scan, Drop, Sustain
Our seamless workflow ensures that recycling fits into your daily routine without friction.
1. Insert
Place your empty plastic water bottle and cups into the machine. Our mobile camera and integrated computer vision instantly analyze the bottle's size and material.
2. Process
Once verified, the Arduino-powered mechanics safely accept and drop the bottle into the collection bin to be diverted from landfills and waterways. (Invalid items are safely rejected).
3. Reward
For every accepted bottle, the machine dispenses a thermal-printed token. These tokens serve as a localized currency, redeemable for food and essential goods within the community.
Video Demonstration
A simple process for quick rewards
Innovating for the Community
Simple mechanics, complex algorithms, real-world impact.
Brain & Vision
A lightweight mobile camera captures real-time visuals, fed into a FastAPI backend. Here, YOLO object detection models handle the high-speed computer vision logic to accurately identify, verify, and accept or reject bottles and cups.
User Interface
Delivers a fast, responsive, and intuitive frontend display to guide users through the scanning and redemption process smoothly with Next.JS.
Mechanical Control
Arduino Uno: Serves as the physical bridge, receiving signals from the backend to control the motors and sensors that intake, sort, and drop the accepted bottles.
Reward Dispenser
A reliable thermal printer triggered upon a successful drop, generating the customized tokens used for food redemption
Measurable Change, Meaningful Impact
Transforming our shared responsibility into tangible relief for those who need it most.
We intercept 500ml PET bottles before they join the 2.7 million tons of plastic waste the Philippines generates annually, actively protecting our shared environment (World Bank, 2021).
By exchanging recyclables for food coupons, we provide immediate, dignified nutritional relief to the estimated 43% of Filipino families facing food poverty (OCTA Research, 2025).
We foster true community solidarity by building a grassroots circular economy that bridges environmental stewardship with direct poverty alleviation.
